President of Russia Vladimir Putin met today with Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov. Mr. Sokolov briefed on the transport sector’s results, including road and bridge construction. It was mentioned that last year as many bridges were opened as over the preceding five years. The main talk was about building and reconstructing airports, sea and railway transport. Special attention was given to the implementation of projects based on public-private partnership agreement. Vladimir Putin: «Let’s examine the full range of issues under the Transport Ministry’s responsibility: freight, road construction, air, sea, rail and road transport». «We have completed a number of significant projects. Our road builders are particularly proud of our bridge construction projects, of course. Last year, more than 10 new off-class bridges were opened, as many as were opened over the preceding five years. Of course, the Western High-Speed Diameter is the crowning jewel in this respect. I briefed you on this project. Practically the whole route is made up of bridges. One more truly unique project with no counterparts around the world is the Moscow Central Ring which was opened last year as well. It carries around 350 thousand passengers a day. A total of 43 million passengers were carried during the last year.
