Recess Section along
Vasilevsky Island Cut-and-cover
Tunnel under the Smolenka River
Along the Morskaya Embankment of Vasilevsky Island, WHSD was designed as a recess section. The roadway is located 6 m below the level of the existing territory, which provides a significant reduction in sound and visual impact on residential buildings.
The WHSD cut-and-cover tunnel section passes under the artificial bed of the Smolenka River, which is launched through the concrete channel lined with granite, located directly on the upper slab. The most important task in the construction process was to strengthen the soil.
