Western High-Speed Diameter awarded for the most important architectural project in the field of Industrial Construction

Winners of the award, established by Youth Association under the Governor of St. Petersburg, were selected through an online voting.

WHSD won by a landslide following the voting results in the Industrial Construction nomination.

1,000 citizens voted for the most significant objects of St. Petersburg which they consider to give the city its face. 

Western High-Speed Diameter is an urban highway which will provide transport link between the Ring Road in the southern part of the city with its southern part and the Scandinavia motorway. WHSD will be a good alternative when crossing the city. It will keep drivers from breaking the law. On top of that, the highway provides traffic relief for the central part of St. Petersburg and provides direct access to the seaport of the city and an exit to the highways of national significance.

WHSD has become unique for crossing the densely developed urban territory.  
As it stands, the construction of the WHSD Central Section is nearing completion. Its length comprises 11, 7 km. The whole section is a complex of engineering structures: two cable-stayed bridges, a double deck bridge and a tunnel under the Smolenka River.
