The Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko inspected the WHSD Central section during a working visit

On September 13, the Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko paid a working visit to the construction sites of the Central Section of the WHSD road.

On the construction site, located in the area of Savushkina Street, Alexei Bnatov, the CEO of the Northern Capital Highway, was speaking about the construction progress of the Central section of the highway and operational characteristics of the Southern and Northen sections of  WHSD.

The WHSD construction is nearing completion. Construction works on flyover supports and bridges, enclosure structures and network remodelling have been already performed. The span structures installation as well as bridges cable systems and the road pavement have been also completed. Finishing works of the tunnel underneath the Smolenka River are expected to be completed soon. Currently, the installation of engineering road systems such as automated traffic control system, toll collection system, anti-icing system and, finally, monitoring engineering systems is being carried out. A total amount of work which has already been done on the object makes over 96%.

Both sections have a capacity of up to 70,000 vehicles a day. Overall traffic is expected to increase along with the opening of the Central section.

The Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, the Vice-Governor Igor Albin, the heads of relevant committees of St. Petersburg Government and accompanying executives had a unique opportunity to pass on the main route of the Central section of WHSD starting with Savushkina street. Poltavchenko inspected the main construction objects, namely cable-stayed bridges over Petrovsky and Korabelny fairways and a double deck flyover over Sea channel.

«There is no doubt that this year St. Petersburg will get a major transportation facility, a unique urban motorway, which will make it possible to pass the five-million metropolis in less than twenty minutes, will relieve the road network and provide for the further economic development of the city», said Poltavchenko during the meeting.

The prospects of the project development were discussed during the meeting as well as the importance of the second connection of Vasilevsky Island.

Upon the finishing of the official part of the visit Georgy Poltavchenko met with the constructors and engineers, engaged in the construction of WHSD. Specialists from Russia, Turkey and Italy greeted the governor of the city, who, in his turn, expressed his satisfaction with the construction progress and wished them success.
